Remembering Adams City High School Memorial Page for:

Claudia Jean Conley-carlson - Class of 1960

Created by: Claudia Jean Conley
Memorial Message:
My MEMORIAL-MEMORY is of Mrs Marek. I had her as my english teacher from 1956..6th grade right through 9th and if I'm not mistaken, Mrs. Marek was my teacher in high school, also. She would have her red pen out right now correcting my little story. Ha-ha Most of you know, my sister, Patricia-Pat was in the same grade as I was 2nd through 12 th. I don't know when Mrs. Marek passed away. I do know she lived long after 1960..my graduation year. Pat and I would go to her at home in Denver on Monroe Street when ever we found ourselves in the Denver area at the same time. Mrs. Marek had Pat & I repairing lamp a shade as we remembered our school stories/memories. I used to do the art work for all the posters Mrs. Marek would put up aroud the school. I remember two just now as I am typing..one for the poem TREES & and one containing a pinto pony. I often wonder where all my art work ended up after Mrs. Marek passed away. Mrs. Marek was still going strong in the 1980's because I had the privilege of encountering her red pen, again. This was at least 20 yeas after I graduated. My 4(four) children all went to Adams City High School at one time or another in the 1970's & the 1980's. Sheil, my third child, was in the kitchen going over her home work. She was not happy about the corrections and was being quite verbal about the whole thing. I stepped up to see what she was being so nasty about. Well.....there it was!!!. Mrs. Marek's red pen at work, again. 20 years after I graduated..Mrs. Marek was still giving me trouble with her red penned corrections on papers turned in. I called Mrs. Marek & to confirm my suspicions. She didn't know right away but when I told her the story line of the english paper Sheila handed in, Mrs. Marek knew right away. we all three had a big laugh about that. Mrs. Marek had, indeed, retired but she still graded papers at the high school when teachers got a little behind. I moved to California in 1984. Much to my sorrow, I lost contact with Mrs. Marek & she had passed away when I returned to Colorado for visit. MRS. MAREK..YES, MRS. MAREK IS THE PERSON, THE TEACHER I THINK OF WHEN ANYONE ASKS THE QUESTION..WHO'S YOUR FAVORITE TEACHER?? MRS. MAREK..YOU ARE LOVED AND MISSED. CLAUDIA & SHEILA
